U.K. market due to resume trading at 2:00 p.m. – MarketWatch

Oh dear... "connectivity issues"... heads up folks. I have worked on these systems; connectivity issues do not exist in a multi-tiered, highly redundant system like this. Something else is happening :(

Dubai World seeks debt standstill | guardian.co.uk

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mike @ 1:03 pm
When I read this last night I figured there would be a reaction. Stage 2 begins.

Dubai World, the government-owned conglomerate, is asking creditors for a six-month "standstill" on its debt repayments and has appointed Deloitte to restructure the business. The request underlines the parlous financial position of Dubai in the wake of a building boom that has turned into a deep property slough, leaving the skyline dotted with the skeletons of half-built towers. One broker in the credit insurance market described it as the "biggest sovereign-related credit event since the start of the crisis".

Okan Akin, credit strategist at RBS in London, warned that it had potential to cause widespread damage. "Lots of local banks will probably have exposure so it may create problems in the banking sector." Dubai World is also thought to be the biggest issuer of Islamic bonds.

And then I spotted this article:

Bundesbank fears relapse as German banks face €90bn fresh losses - Telegraph

"The Bundesbank has told German banks to take advantage of renewed confidence while they can to prepare for likely losses of €90bn (£81bn) over the next year, warning that the delayed shock waves of the economic crisis still pose a major threat to global recovery and bank finance."

I wonder how much exposure there is in German banks?

Russia to invest in Canadian dollars

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mike @ 1:27 pm
OK, Russia is getting serious:

Russia to invest in Canadian dollars

"Such a public affirmation from a major central bank on reserve diversification gave a dollar-bearish market a perfect excuse to sell the currency further, traders said.

The U.S. dollar accelerated its earlier losses to its weakest level since August against a basket of currencies and against the euro. The dollar index fell as low as 74.399 and the euro rose to $1.5096, according to Reuters data."

Lorne Gunter: Cooking the climate change books – Full Comment

An article has appeared in 'The National Post', one of Canada's prominent nationwide daily newspapers... the cracks are starting.

Lorne Gunter: Cooking the climate change books - Full Comment

In the comment, he makes reference to a Guardian comment by George Monbiot - here is the souirce article he is referring to:
Global warming rigged? Here's the email I'd need to see | George Monbiot | Comment is free | The Guardian

I see he is throwing caution to the wind, and now dismissing valid concerns over the accuracy of data collection and analysis as "Conspiracy Theory". Allow me to refresh Mr. Monbiot on the legal definition of the word "Conspiracy":

"An agreement between two or more persons to commit a crime or accomplish a legal purpose through illegal action."

The request of Phil Jones to request the destruction of emails between the various parties, and the destruction of key data in response to a Freedom of Information Act request for information, is legally speaking, most likely a "conspiracy".

I note that some of the comments on my most recent video seem to infer I am against the theory of 'Climate Change'. In reality, I am not biased by any particular slant. I have not reached a decision; and now, especially following these revelations, i await 'real scientific evidence' backed up by un-biased "Scientific Peer Reviews". All i can currently see is science modified by 'Political Spin'.

Oh, by the way, theSpartaCat, there is very little scientific evidence that the number of Polar bears is on the decrease - They tend to move around a lot, and are very difficult to spot on the ice ;-)

Bank of England reveals £61.1bn spent propping up RBS and HBOS- guardian.co.uk

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mike @ 12:37 pm
The country came so close to a total financial collapse last year. Remember my earlier post on the fact the UK was 'hours away' from shutting down the ATM networks? Well, the Bank of England's response to that potential crisis? HBOS and RBS both received secret loans from the Bank of England, totaling just over £61 Billion Pounds, to remain solvent!

'John McFall MP, chairman of the committee, admitted that there was an "intake of breath" among his colleagues over the figure, thinking about "how many universities, how many colleges, how many jobs could you support with this".'

A favorite of the Bilderberger's, David Miliband is 'shocked' at the apathy of the public. Perhaps he should have a look at the comments added to this article out today? LOL. The UK Political spin doctors have begun in earnest to drum up support for the Copenhagen Treaty. Guess what David? They're on to you... When they discover what you are signing away; heads may indeed roll.

Well, at least someone 'high up' has taken up the cause in the UK. Lord Lawson, ex Chancellor under Margaret Thatcher, has called for "an independent inquiry into claims that leading climate change scientists manipulated data to strengthen the case for man-made global warming."
